Project overview

A specialized aviation maintenance management application built on the Frappe Framework and the ERPNext ecosystem. It models the records and workflows involved in maintaining aircraft.

Business problem

Aviation maintenance depends on many interconnected records: aircraft and their models, operators and fleets, part numbers, maintenance programs and their revisions, work orders, and the certificates that release an aircraft back to service. The software has to keep these records consistent and traceable.

My role and contribution

I contributed to the development of modules within this application as part of my work at Talpha Solutions, covering the areas listed below.

Implementation approach

Domain concepts are modelled as custom DocTypes with explicit relationships between them, and business processes are implemented as workflows on top of those records.

Development areas include aircraft and aircraft model management, fleet and operator records, part numbers and component data, maintenance programs, task cards and program revisions, aviation work orders with tasks, parts, labour and approvals, release certificates, and maintenance scheduling and compliance-related workflows.

Engineering challenges and solutions

  1. 01

    Many domain entities reference each other, so a change in one record can affect several others.

    Solution: Modelled the relationships between aircraft, programs, task cards and work orders explicitly as linked records.

  2. 02

    Maintenance work needs a clear approval trail before an aircraft is released.

    Solution: Implemented work order tasks, parts, labour and approvals, together with release certificates.

  3. 03

    Maintenance programs evolve, and their history matters for compliance.

    Solution: Supported maintenance program revisions alongside task cards and scheduling workflows.
